5 Ways to Stay Motivated During the Holidays

It’s that time of year again and temptation is everywhere! Holiday gatherings filled with treats and alcoholic beverages combined with cold, cozy weather that makes you think "I can take the night off from the gym". Here at VIP Fitness, we know how much damage one can do with a month of less than perfect diet and training. Here are a few ideas that can help you continue to make progress while still enjoying your holidays. 1. Plan your Workouts. Planning ahead is always a safe bet, but particularly when you know you're going to be extra busy! Make sure to accommodate your workouts into your very full schedule. Sometimes this might mean you need to change your training time, go earlier in the morning or later in the evening. 2. Be Selective. It’s important to relax a little bit and let yourself indulge, just remember to have self-control. Make sure to fill your plate with healthy options and only have one piece of dessert instead of multiple. Be sure to eat slowly and savour every bite. 3. Try a Home Workout. You might not have time to make it to the gym some days or maybe you are travelling and don't have access to one. If this is the case try a home workout. You can use bodyweight or resistance bands or try going for a jog outside and enjoying the beautiful crisp weather. 4. Don't let yourself get too hungry. Continue to eat all of your healthy and nutritious meals, especially on days that you have an event. You will find it a lot easier to stay in control if you make sure to eat all of your regular meals during the day. Never show up starving, it is a recipe for disaster. 5. Alcohol. Try to limit your alcohol intake to 1 or 2 nights over the holidays. Always have a glass of water between each alcoholic drink to help keep yourself hydrated and also to help reduce the amount that you are actually drinking. Choose lower calorie drinks such as vodka with soda compared to richer and higher caloric options. The Holidays are meant to spend time with loved ones and enjoy yourself, that being said it is important maintain a healthy balance. Follow these 5 points to help you stay on track through the holiday season.
